This Augusta Wisconsin octagon house was built in the 1880s. It was located on Highway 12 "just west of the Main Street next to the Austin House". (Editors note: just west of "main street" actually means "just west of Lincoln Street". We have no information about "the Austin House".)

Octagonal House in Augusta Wisconsin History

The octagonal exterior was clapboard .  The 8 sided house had a marble fireplace and an open stairway into the living room. There was a large glassed-in porch attached at the back of the building. In the 1950's and 1960s the house was fully carpeted downstairs. The octagonal shape of the exterior allowed for interesting and unusual furniture arrangements

In earlier times, there was a barn and a carriage room at the back of the lot. The barn was torn down in the 1930s. Later, a garage was built at the back of the house

The postmaster of Augusta lived in this Wisconsin octagon house in the 1950s and 1960s after which it was rented and allowed to run down.

This octagon house was torn down in 1969 for the possible expansion of the neighboring Augusta Wisconsin Baptist Church. The Baptist church (bought and) owned the adjacent lot occupied by the octagon house

This text is from a letter by AC Works (letterhead: A.C. Works & Co.; family clothing and dry goods; Augusta Wisconsin, 54722) on March 28, 1972. The letter was addressed to Mrs. Ruth E Jenks, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin 53538 and signed by AC Works The letter has been paraphrased and edited to reflect the history of Augusta Wisconsin and the history of this Octagonal House (aka as an Octagon House)

There was an additional octagon house in the rural area of Augusta into the 1960s on what is now Coon Fork Road not far from the Kirkham Valley school.  We have no images or info about that structure.  Our memory says it was an Erdman property aka as an Erdman Farm.
