Augusta Wisconsin is located in what is known as the western hemisphere, on the continent of North America, in the United States of America, in the Great Lakes State of Wisconsin (also know as the upper Mid-West and the Badger State), in the County of Eau Claire Wisconsin , in the Town of Bridgecreek.  Augusta Wisconsin is part of regions known as the Chippewa Valley and Indian Head Country.

Augusta Wis. sets in the middle of beautiful west central Wisconsin with rolling hills, man made lakes, rivers and streams,  marshes, pine and deciduous forests, and charming open spaces. The area is known for its family dairy farms, small apple orchards, grains, small creamery cheese production, tourism and outdoor recreation.

Low crime rates, fresh air, a moderate real estate market and an industrious population makes it a great place to live,  work and do business.  Kids play free here.  You'll still find a seasonal drive-in restaurant with car hops and mom and pop places to dine but no MacDonald's or Pizza Huts

The area was settled in the mid-19th century by German, Scandinavian and other European immigrants. Victorian buildings remain and are still very much in use.

Today Augusta Wisc. has a vital Amish Community, and is proud to be "Small Town America" and "Main Street USA"

The bridge is known as the

Green Eyes Bridge or the
 Bridge Over Troubled Waters *

Visit the Augusta Wisconsin Wildlife Area

just 4 miles north of town on County Road G.

Visit the Troubled Waters area and the county forest.  Over 2000 acres in which to hunt, pick wild berries, use your all terrain vehicles or snow mobiles, hike and cross-country ski (trails are not marked). Some of the trees you see may have been planted by Augusta School students, decades ago.  Spend quiet time - find a deer trail  - sit down near-by and relax -  if you are patient, still and quiet you will them in the wild.  You'll see rabbits, squirrels, and maybe even woodchucks (also known as ground hogs), beavers, badgers, other furbearing animals, and rarely, possibly even a black bear.  Look for turkeys, song birds and birds of prey:  Watch hawks and eagles soar and maybe see a sand hill or other cranes.  Listen to crows as they talk and alert the forest and marshes of the goings-on.

Tidbits:  Did you know?:
"Main Street" in Augusta WI is not  the main street but it is "Lincoln Street". The Community Center is on "Main Street". The original Augusta High School was located at the current site of the Community center

Augusta, a feminine form name, is of  Latin origin meaning "majestic" or "revered". The word in masculine form is Augustus.  See the history page for how the town got it's name.

The term Indian Head Country has become somewhat out of favor because it is considered not politically correct.  You can see the reason for the term by tracing  a map border between Wisconsin and Minnesota, including the western boarder of Lake Superior - you will see a profile of an Indian Chief with head dress in the northwest part of the state. (check out one of the maps on the Augusta City Information link above)  Better yet, see www.indianheadcountry.com

The Chippewa Valley region name comes from the Chippewa Indian tribe.  The American Indian word, Chippewa, means "the people who wear moccasins with puckered seams".

Where is the Chippewa Valley?  Click here to see all the Wisconsin counties on a Chippewa Valley Wisconsin Map.  Check out the link to the history of the Chippewa Valley too.  It's on the history page.

The Eau Claire River (pronounced "oh! clare" - French for clear water), gives drainage to most of the Augusta Wisconsin area via Bridge Creek, which passes though Augusta.  Bridge Creek is the source and outlet for the Dells Mill Pond and it joins the Eau Claire River in Harstad County Park. What is the meaning of Eau Claire?

The Eau Claire River enters the Chippewa River in Eau Claire Wisconsin.  It and other tributaries give drainage to much of north central Wisconsin.  The Chippewa River itself is a tributary to the Mississippi River

Wisconsin State is named after the Wisconsin River.  Wisconsin means a "grassy place" in the language of the Chippewa Indians.  Wisconsin became a state in 1848. Wisconsin borders the states of Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan (upper Michigan) and Iowa.  You'll find the Great Lakes of Lake Superior to the north, and Lake Michigan to the east.

Weather you might expect when you visit
Augusta Wisconsin is just 20 miles from being half way between the equator and the Arctic. Come prepared with jackets and sweaters as the weather swings between the seasons; between more northern and more southern climes.  The climate is considered temperate with generally warm summers, extended springs, early falls and long winters.  April, May and September temperatures can swing wildly between the moderate, the chilly to even the cold. Usually it is great in summer but sometimes even early June and late August temperatures can be cool.   Trees are in full leaf  in early to mid-May.  The peak tree color season is early to mid-October.  Lakes usually begin to ice over in mid-November. The first snows fly in November and end in early April.
